“ID firm that gives confidence and peace of mind”

Went through about 5 different ID firms and finally decided to go with The Local Inn.terior because of their ability to understand our needs and more importantly, they came across as honest and truthful about potential difficulties that may occur during the renovation. Lydia, from our first meeting, was able to understand our requirements and exceeded expectations with her suggestions! Our project was delayed because of Covid, but she consistently engages us and provides timely updates. Our new home is one that has not been renovated for 30+ years and we came into a few constraints. All of which would have been an extremely stressful processed without her guidance and coordination between various parties. Her design also really shows that she not only considers aesthetics but also practicality - important for us as we wanted a modern / artsy design that is simple to upkeep. She was also able to keep in mind our budget and provide alternatives where required. The Local Inn terior is not the cheapest in market, but I would most definitely recommend to my friends ! Lydia’s dedication and timely updates really gives us a peace of mind and confidence.

“Compliments & good service”

Got to know about The Local INN.terior via Instagram and contacted them to enquiry about the renovation of my house, Louis was appointed to assist us with it. After all the "ID shopping", we decided to go with Louis as he never fail to answer our concerns when we've doubts/questions. Local INN.terior definitely deserves a 5 stars rating for their dedication, service and workmanship. It’s been months since the renovation is completed, but they never fail to respond to our requests for maintenance issues. Thumbs up for the after sales service. Highly recommend!

“Great ?”

My husband and I are so grateful to have chosen The local INN for our recent project. Every step in the project from design to final walkthrough was stress-free and enjoyable thanks to Louis and Han Shi. They were professional, supportive, and understood every part of what we wanted to capture in great detail. They were not only easy to work with, but were also willing to take the time to respond to our questions and concerns.

“Kudos to Lydia Tan of The Local INN.terior”

This review is a personal recommendation for Lydia of The Local INN.terior. I was very impressed with the firm’s speediness in getting in touch with me. I received a formal introductory email from Lydia (the only one to do so, in fact) on arranging an appointment. Lydia was both accommodating and consultative with our design proposal - something which first-time homeowners will definitely appreciate. Lydia replied to hundreds of questions and redrafted numerous quotations fervently (never once compromised on deadlines and promises) - a testament to her patience and passion for design. Lydia even went above and beyond to visit my apartment on such short notice (I honestly felt bad). The design aesthetics were very much in-line with our theme and I couldn't be happier! I would recommend Lydia to family and friends without hesitation. Thank you, Lydia!

“Bad experience, will not recommend”

It has been a year since we moved into our home and I figured it’s time to write an honest review about my experience. This review is not to break anybody’s rice bowl but simply sharing our personal experience. ID: Vincent Tan (who also recently did an influencer’s home) Our first impression over zoom with Vincent was great, he was easygoing and was willing to work with our budget. But everything went downhill after the contract was signed. Warning: long post ahead. No Professionalism - First face-to-face meeting, he was close to an hour late. Once reached, instead of apologising he immediately excused himself to the back door for a smoke. - Ignored our WhatsApp messages and calls. Did not provide updates to our questions after saying he will check. - Did not provide the revised 3D after the first version even though we asked multiple times. We were left to our imaginations how it will look like. - Several remediations were made as he did not follow our instructions resulting in additional cost and time spent on both sides. - Gave wrong timings/dates resulting in several wasted trips because workers ended up not showing. - Always blaming carpenters / manpower/covid for the delays. Totally understandable at the beginning but toward the end it just felt like poor project management on his end. Little project management - Throughout the whole renovation, I felt like I was taking on a co-pm role in ensuring measurements are correct, checking for defects, chasing for missing items etc. - Minimal site management, heavily dependent on workers to give him updates. Poor Workmanship -Actual version of our kitchen island looked wayyyy different compared to the 3D. The actual one was too tall to be considered an island. His excuse to me was along the lines of why did I not check through his fabrication mock-up. We ended up paying more to get it fixed. (Thoughts: If I have to check through ALL his measurements why do I even need an ID lol) -Common bathroom cabinet was installed wrongly, pointed out to him when I first saw the fabrication mock-up but he said it was correct. Had to re-do in the end. - Over-hacked the wall. When I first saw it I immediately feedback to him but he assured me it will be alright after everything is done. Lo and behold, the workers had indeed hacked too much of the wall which cannot be undone. - Left ample space (25cm gap above) around the fridge which looks hedious. Wondering why did he ask for my fridge dimensions if he was not going to build according to it. - Grouting was terrible, had to get the tilers to touch up 3 times but still looks very bad - Lights track was installed slanted - Ceiling fans were installed loosely, they were shaking vigorously at high speed. I had to engage someone else to re-install the fans Over promise, under deliver - Pushed back handover date more than 5 times. - Did not spare a thought for our living condition. Kept telling us it’s in “move in condition” when there are so many things not done (eg. Door not fixed, Wardrobe not done, toilet done etc) In summary, i would not recommend based on my bad experience.

“Carpentry workmanship is my nightmare so far!”

Hi, I am a homeowner and I engage an ID this year February for my renovation, This is just based off my experience journey at current situation and I have not move in due to the amount of rectification works still yet to be properly rectify. First I would like to say that the ID overall was satisfactory but the effort wasn’t enough and not being very detailed and very forgetful on many aspect side of things. Stuffs that are reminded over and over again but mistake are still made and at this point those mistake are very hard to be rectified. I know that he is trying his best but we are the one that is going to stay in this house for many years and felt very stressful at this time. It’s been like 3 1/2 months so far and we have not moved in yet and still waiting for the rectification works to be completed. The carpenter which handles the cabinet keeps giving problems and always trying to hide the flaws they have done. - Installation works are sloppy, a lot of uneven gap on my cabinet instal - lots of scratches, holes, glue stains on the laminate - not listening to instruction ( reminded multiple times to use hafele pocket door system but still went ahead to use other brand which they themselves don’t even know, instead of pull out drawer they went ahead to made shelves instead and many more…) Not going to list out more stuffs at this time. I understand in renovation there is no perfection I am not asking for 100% but I can’t even get a 95% quality work and the quality check seems like non existence. It seem like lack of supervision during the whole process. Most of those rectification stuffs I had to personally went down every week to check. Currently I am quite mentally drained and my wife are feeling very stressful and she just recovering from her cancer this year and I really doesn’t want to put more stress in her. Please have some compassion. We are still paying for rental and other stuffs due to these delays Their tiler was excellent though, kudos to them! I think the issue only lies with the current carpenter that is assign to our Reno. Now I am just asking if there is any solution for us if they’re management to please help on this matter eg: changing the current carpenter for a better one to help us in these rectification. I have trust issue with their workmanship already. I won’t go into more depth. Once everything is completed to satisfactory I will take down this post and hopefully will give a much better review. Hope everything is going to go well this time! I am not going to name my ID here since I believe there are things he can’t control but I hope the management do something about it.

Design

It’s a mix of both and it’s cater to our lifestyle, there is also no specific theme which me and the ID both came out with a combined ideas on the design

Workmanship

It is very very unacceptable not to the extend of trash but there is no effort into any detailing on my project

Customer Service

Personally I find that the ID is trying his best to rectify the problems but if the contractor doesn’t cooperate well, things will still snowball. Only solutions is for the upper management to oversee these stuffs

Value for Money

Based off the current market price for the Reno works, yes I agree their quotation is one of the reasonable ones.

“Rather unsatisfactory experience with The Local Inn.terior”

I have a rather unsatisfactory experience with The Local Inn.terior. Instead of rambling on about my frustrations with them, I will list out some points why I would NOT recommend anyone to use them. I work with Jade Cham, an inexperienced young ID who seems to be very trustworthy in the beginning until things didn't work well. The outcome of their work is ok, BUT... Whenever problem arises, ID's first reaction is to push blame. "Is it HDB", "it's the workers", "others lied to me so I didn't know", etc. Then it becomes my job to prove to her whose fault it is. To me, you are the ID and project manager I hired, settle it. Doesn't listen to you when you asked them to do "preventive" works - e.g. put on vanguard boards to protect the doors, lay out vanguard to protect the floors although no works is to be done for the room yet. In the end, one of my doors got scratched, then come and tell you they will polish my doors for free out of goodwill. What goodwill is that? Then when ID is incapable of reasoning, I am pushed to their "management", which turns out to be more frustrating than the ID. Basically, communication is "I speak, you don't speak" mode. He always wants to have the last say and controls the conversation. When speaking of my frustrations, he basically said renovation work is never perfect, it depends on many factors such as efficiency of workers and correspondences with HDB (which to him is inefficient), etc. So in the end, you are very much manipulated by him, with him pushing responsibilities to everything else except himself/his ID. Worse still, he was backed by a ridiculously one-sided contract. I have to admit it's my fault I didn't take the contract very seriously in the first place - coz ID seems trustworthy! Thus, I never thought things could turn bad. Do note, you would only be given the T&C upon final negotiations. I would advise anyone to NOT sign and take the T&C back to read and sit on it for a few days. Better still, ask for T&C when asking for quotation. They only tell you there’s a warranty card AFTER all your payments. The date is fixed by them. I wouldn’t even know there is a warranty card until I asked. Imagine I didn’t ask and the hassle I may need to go through if there’s a problem in the future! Attached is the highlighted areas, which I believe in the event you are dissatisfied with their service, there is no way you can get your money back. And they would sue you without qualms coz you are suppose to bear their legal costs! At the end of the day, I can still live with the ID, there are good times we have together too, but I can never trust that she will get things right the first time, and I need to go in to "help" her in any rectification works. So, I could never quite get a peace of mind when working with her. But the worst nightmare is the management and the contract terms. For those who had good experience with their IDs, good for you, coz there is no reason for you to experience the bad side of things. But I do think home owners should engage a company that can ensure things will be settled fairly upon any problems.

Workmanship

There are many rectification works they do and do again. E.g. ID didn't monitor workers to check the pipes before installation of mortar base, which covered all the pipes, and thus the sink got choked when it was installed. I have to prove to them it is their fault and the problem lies within the mortar base before they are willing to rectify it. Another is painting, which I have to take pictures of areas to redo. ID showed painter the pictures ONLY, without further checking herself, and expect him to remember 20+ pictures. ID did not show up at the end of the day to check painter's work. I got to check again and ask for touchup AGAIN. Windows installation was late, even after much chasing from us, AND workers got the wrong measurement, which means they need to come back again... just to quote a few. Home owners, you have to understand that your presence is often required during these rectifications coz you really don't trust them to do a good job anymore since it just seems impossible for them to get it right. There goes your time and energy wasted on someone who does not uphold detailed workmanship and close supervision. Poor supervision work - lost an item after workers cleaned up my place, never did a co-check of defects with me, never bothered to look at details of defects and just reacted when there is complain from my side.

Customer Service

Poor project management - there is no schedule given to me, I don't even know which work comes after what, and when I need to make decisions on paint color, lightings, etc. When asked, she said her company does not have the protocol to give work schedules. But as a client, I am asking for one! (Now you see the way they handle professional responsibilities). Do note that when there isn’t a black and white schedule, each delay becomes no-one fault. I got a dateline from my carpenter, a dateline which was spelt out to her 1 month ago. In the end, everyone is rushing her - both me and my carpenter are rushing her 2 weeks before, and again 1 week before, but she does not listen! She believes there is still time for all the works to be done before carpentry until her electrician and painter told her they cannot fit her time schedule! In the end, I didn’t get painting behind my carpentry works.

“Save yourself the stress of dealing "salesman".”

You need a "project manager" to manage your renovation, not a "salesman" that promises the sky and the sea. Always late for appointments, not talking about 10-15 min late, but 1 - 2 hrs late and then postponed the meeting last minute because of blah blah blah. Once contract signed, very hard to reach him. He simply ignored your messages and call. Promised work keeps delay week after week and gave you excuses and reasons that he thought you were just born yesterday. Save yourself the stress of dealing "salesman".

“A nightmare with Localinterior”

Like many other folks out there, I approached Local Inn.terior because of the good reviews. Did the usual 3 quotes and their cost was considered quite reasonable. Initial encountered with my ID, Joyce was pretty pleasant and she was responsive. Officially kicked start the project on the 3rd Aug. Begun to notice some careless mistakes. Notified the ID that I wanted to keep the stove but it was been thrown out. Offered to pay half for my stove as compensation. 2nd incident was my heater. Despite having several discussions and even her recommendation to build the heater on the other side, ended up it was installed back at the original position. To resolve this, the wall has to be hecked again to repipe. 3rd incident, sliding door between two rooms. Logically I would think it will come with a lock in case I need to host guest for sleepover. But as cliché as it is, not everyone has the common understanding. In her plan, it doesn't come with a lock. Because of the accumulated doubts, if I didn't check with her specifically, it won't be there. 4th incident - wardrobe. Wanted a certain design but ended up doing another. Wasnt the worse but still, another mistake checked. Offered to pay for additional knots cost due to design. 5th incident - the killer experience. Contractor didn't bring their ladder hence she got to borrow from neighbour. Texted me at 1.01pm and asked if was okay to allow my neighbour to view my house, replied at 1.04pm - NO since I already moved in (yes despite incompled job due to my lease ended) and I don't even know my neighbour?? Didn't feel right, again because of accumulated doubts I immediately called and checked. Ta dah! She already allowed my neighbour to step in and viewed my house without my permission. This invasive act was my last straw. I immediately called the management to report the case. Both manager and owner were nice and they apologised and offered some compensation. I thought the story will end well and I don't have to give a review. Usually I will give it if it requires my attention - either outstanding or one hell of an experience. After all, I left with only removing the hangers on the ceiling, patching up the tiles due to the wrong heater installation (yes took more than 2 weeks to get it fixed) and some cracked tiles I found. However the story didn't end here. Almost approaching the last phase, but drama continued. The contractor flashed sands to the toilet bowl, big particles into the sink, left the place uncleaned when I'm already staying there. Also, I bet if I didn't remind my ID to cover the sofa when they carried out the job, it will not be done. Reminded umpteen times to clean up the space after the job but ended up coming home to see the mess after a long day at work. Even the corridor was a messed. I even have to clean up myself to avoid neighbours from complaining. Sensibly, the cleaning should be carried out on the day or immediately the next day but it was not arranged until I flared and demanded. To give you some context, the job kicked start on 3rd Aug. I'm writing this review on 5 Oct for a 3 rooms flat I m renovating. Understand the convid will cause some delay. However given that I myself coordinated and managed several big events for my job, I can tell whether this project has put in enough professionalism, effort, attention and project management skill. The answer is clearly a NO. "Fun fact", the whole experience is still going on while writing this long story (because it was so bad that i just have to spend the time to share) and I shall update the progress once its finally over.

Value for Money

Quote was okay however given the amount of stress, time and unprofessionalism I need to deal with, it is definitely not worth it.
