Designers recommending vendors for furniture and appliances

Need some help on an issue here, my designer has proposed the design for our new home and has also recommended a few shops for furniture and appliances. She mentioned that it is not compulsory for me to purchase from these vendors, but will be recommended as they will fit the style and design proposed better. As I am renovating with a rather tight budget, I would want to keep cost low as possible. Would it be cheaper if I go the recommended vendors by my designer? Some of the pieces like furniture desk and chairs are quite unique to the vendors, but mainly I am more cost concious.

Vendors recommended by your ID is always kind of tricky. It depends where you are getting your stuff from. Some big retail stores like Courts, Harvey Norman, Best Denki, etc are usually competitive in terms of their prices as they have the quantities of scale with their licensed brands. They are usually cheaper.

Do note that some IDs do get a kickback (commission) from their furniture vendors for each successful referral. You would also have to consider the value-added service provided by the ID who would cover the hassle of travelling back to the merchant store if the items have defects. But make sure you clarify with the ID on that prior to confirming. Some of the IDs whom I have met also would take the time to shop and discuss with you at the stores too.
