Anyone using area carpets to define spaces in HDB or condo

Hi all, recently moved into my new place and still figuring out how to make the living area feel more complete without overcrowding it. I noticed quite a few home inspiration photos use area carpets to define zones like the sofa area or even dining space.

I am considering getting one but not sure how practical it is for daily use in Singapore homes, especially with humidity and cleaning. Does it trap dust easily or become hard to maintain over time? Also wondering what size works best for a typical living room layout.

Would love to hear from anyone who has used area carpets in their home. Does it really improve the overall look and comfort, or is it more of a design thing than practical use?
