I am collecting my keys for a 4 room next month and have been in talks with a few id. However most of their proposed prices are over my budget. I am looking for around 40K all in, most quotes I have gotten started from 55k and up.

With the current economy and market, I understand that prices and labour have gotten more expensive as compared to last year, but 35% above my budget is too steep of a pill to swallow.

I do have a little more build in carpentry as I prioritise storage, so that might add a good chunk to the cost.

I am considering going the contractor route and getting directly carpentry, tiling, electrical and plumbing. I have seen some friends done that and based on research these could get me within my reno budget. What do you guys think?

Hey sis, the prices quoted by id recently has indeed increased by quite a bit. For myself I have been enquiring gradually a year prior to my key collection with approximately 7 to 8 firms. The quotes which I have gotten towards the later end of the year are around 20% more than the initial ones. There could be certainly differences of works between each firm, but there is definitely a trend towards them getting more ex.
