Saw this article from facebook today.

https://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2021/02/23/lack-of-consumer-protection-or-recourse-for-singaporeans-who-lost-thousands-to-interior-design-scams/ Seems like since the start of covid that has affected many businesses, there seems to be a rise in scammy firms and businesses. CASE seems to be useful in protecting the general public consumers too. There also seems to be a rising number of negative reviews on ID firms here. Hope that new owners can do more due diligence before giving their hard earn money to these scammy firms, especially during these tough times.

These are indeed weird times, during my reno research I have seen firms that were originally legit ID companies that ended up turning scam companies. Perhaps from cashflow issues or they originally already decided to close down but want to scam a few people first.

I do have similar experiences when my fam were meeting IDs for our home reno. A couple of the designers who we had made appointment with consistently claimed that their showroom is under renovation and we can only meet in cafes or outside. We were feeling something fishy was going on and we eliminated them from out shortlist shortly after..

It seems that there is an increasing number of negative reviews on Ids recently. Quite a number of them seemed to be due to the bottlenecks and lack of (quality) manpower during the ongoing covid period. Some of them are just kinda sad to see: https://www.hometrust.sg/interior-designers/haqq-creations/review/3364

With the recent shortage in manpower, I would not be surprised if some ids ended up using less manpower than required which might result in some form of a rush job. Better to check the handover of projects properly.

Better be more careful than sorry. Know a friend whose ID company they engaged just close shop and close up during the lockdown. They now stuck in half renovated state. Private limited company declare close up nothing much can do to them. Don't fall for those ID companies or platforms that provide free vouchers, free coupons, free discount, free guarantee or whatever one. Nothing is free in the world guys.
